CIC Data Base Inquiry
Reference No. 116
2000-2001 Toyota Tundra
R&I fender flare (4X4)
  Date of Request: March 2001
Date Posted: May 5, 2001
Correction to Mitchell response: June 11, 2001

CIC Reference No. 116
Data Providers: Mitchell International, ADP Claims Solutions Group, Motor Information Services/CCC Information Systems
Original Time Allowance: 0.4
Original Labor Note:
none

Issue:
Inadequate time allowance. If the flare is to be removed then reinstalled without damaging the three different designs of dedicated fasteners, the fender and splash shield must be removed to access the back side of the fasteners.
If the flare is to be removed and reinstalled with no intention of salvaging (reusing) the fasteners, deformation may occur when separating the flare from fender. The square holes in fender, which the flare fasteners attach to, may distort causing an improper fit of flare when reinstalled.

Response:
  • Motor/CCC –Recognizes the problem and is in the process of doing research
  • ADP –States: They can not know what approach a technician will follow–R&I splash shield/fender or destroy fasteners.
  • Mitchell– Has added a labor note to address the need to remove the fender liner in order to properly access the fender flare attaching hardware.
Results/Change:
  • Motor/CCC –Expect an increase in time allowance of at least 0.6 hours.
  • ADP –No change in time allowance & no labor note added
  • Mitchell–Expect an increase in time allowance of at least 0.6 hours.
