Data Base Inquiry Reference No. 139 1996-2002 Toyota 4-Runner R&R and R&I Front Lower Control Arm |
|||||||||||||||||||
|
Date of Request:
April 22, 2002 1. To facilitate the removal of the lower control arm on these models, the steering gear rack must be removed in order to detach the rear mounting bolt. 2. The time listed for the replacement of the lower control arm rear bolt does not correspond to the time required to replace the bolt as a stand alone operation. Steering gear must be removed. *Mitchell recognizes the removal of the steering gear, but the "R&R both sides" portion of their labor note may be misleading, insinuating that the 3.5 hour time allowance may be for both sides. Suggestion:To all providers: 1. Time allowance should include the removal of the steering gear (as Mitchell does). 2. The "labor note" should be specific, stating the steering gear must be removed. 3. Replacement time for the control arm rear bolt should reflect the removal of the steering gear. Results:
Mitchell
Response: The 3.5 hour R&R allowance is for one lower control arm only and includes time to disconnect the steering gear for access. Concerning R&R both sides, it appears from the above inquiry that the user did not acknowledge the entire labor note thus possibly creating a misunderstanding. The entire R&R both sides note in the estimating products states, "R&R both sides 6.2". The 6.2 hour R&R both sides allowance is for both lower control arms and includes time to disconnect the steering gear once for access. Overlap is deducted because the steering gear does not need to be disconnected twice. A labor note will be added to the lower control arm bolts so that they are automatically included in the lower control arm R&R.
